Blog

Repurposing your old garage door is a great way to recycle and create something new to use for your home or even create something new to give away as a gift. Garage doors are large enough pieces to create furniture and even art pieces to make your home look luxurious; it can also save you money by recycling the material instead of buying new material to start your DIYs projects. Here are five unique ways that you can repurpose your old garage doors into something new and useful.

1. Art for your home

If your old garage door was made of wood, then you are in luck! You can create art pieces for your home interior to give it a rustic feel to it and make your home more "artsy". You can choose to cut your garage doors into small enough pieces to be displayed in your living room walls, for your rustic theme idea. They will look great if you strip off the old paint and give it a different color by staining them into a darker wood color.

2. Raised garden beds

You can use your old garage doors as a form of frames for your raised gardens. Of course, you will need to cut smaller pieces of your garage door and paint them the color you desire to bring out your garden, and create a frame for it. This is a great form of recycling your old things to bring up something new; you also save on the material needed for that frame you desire for your garden. This is a creative form to give your garden a unique look, and no one will know that you used your garage doors to aid you on your DIY.

3. Create a new headboard for your bed

A garage door is a perfect size to create a large and new headboard for your bedroom. You may not use the entire size of the garage door, but you can cut it up, and paint it with your desired color. Of course, it might be better if your garage door is made of wood rather than aluminum/metal, as sometimes old garage doors are. Unless you are seeking an edgy look, then by all means use the aluminum/metal material.

4. Windows for your home

There is a unique way to use your garage door by simply using the frame and of the door and using them as windows; you can use the wood you have taken off for a different project. By even installing the an operating opener for garage to be able to open up your windows, will definitely be very unique and artsy way to entertain your guests and also have that sunlight and natural air you so desire.

5. Room dividers

Sometimes it is a little irritating establishing which side is yours when sharing a room or door, so why not create a room divider with your old garage doors? They are actually the perfect size to create a great divider, simply strip off the paint and paint it with your desired color and put it in the middle of the room you desire as well. It will even help if your garage door is flexible in bending, instead of the garage doors that are just a piece of wood with no movement.

There are endless possibilities to repurpose your old garage door (once you've replaced it with companies like Quality Doors) as you choose to do so; the sky is the limit. Be creative and unique with your project. Look into DIYs to help you pick the right design to use for your doors, and just have fun with it.

repairing garage door damage from auto impacts

I thought the most difficult part of teaching my son how to drive would be out on the roads, but I didn't think about what he could do to my garage door before he even left the driveway. It took one small tap with the car to damage the garage door. My blog explains what we had to do to make the repairs and will give you some tips for avoiding this type of accident around your home.
